TRADITION. TOGETHERNESS. SURPRISE.
In the past six years, music lovers started the new year with a joint concert by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Liszt Academy of Music on 1st January each year. These gala concerts were conducted by Hungary’s most outstanding conductors including Tamás Vásáry, János Kovács, Ádám Medveczky, Oliver von Dohnányi, Gábor Káli and Domonkos Héja, who conducted the orchestra and the young talents of Franz Liszt Academy of Music. This very event will follow in a similar fashion. The popular and unique concert will be conducted by Róbert Farkas on the very first day of 2026.
Since September 2021, Róbert Farkas has been the Chief Conductor of MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Director for MUZIKA at the Germany-based Theatre Hagen. He attracted the attention of the classical music world when he won the third prize at the International Lovro von Matačić Competition of Young Conductors as well as the Opera and Special Award of the Croatian Composers’ Society (HDS) in 2011. Besides classical operas, he also conducts modern and contemporary works. In recognition of his creative and imaginative musical thinking, he has been mentored by internationally renowned conductors.
Thanks to a co-operation with Hungary’s Media Service Support and Asset Management Fund, this concert will be broadcast live on Hungarian Public TV and Radio Channels.

Dés. For decades a byword for excellence on the Hungarian music scene. A considerable number of musicals, film scores, major hits and jazz albums is attached to his name. His best-known songs include Nagy utazás, Vigyázz rám, Olyan szépek voltunk, Legyen úgy and Mi vagyunk a grund. In addition to these popular songs, performed with invited guest artists and an excellent band, we will also hear new compositions.
