“From the heart, may it again go to the heart!” Beethoven wrote these much-quoted lines at the end of the scores of his ‘Missa solemnis’. The robustness of this confessional work – due to its heartfelt, deeply shared, sincere and personal tone even in the face of the liturgy conveyed by the music – as well as the music’s emotional intensity and density of events, which surpass even Symphony No. 9, have always presented a challenge to musicians. And even today a slight sense of sacred awe takes hold of those who perform ‘Missa solemnis’. This January concert will be conducted by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Honorary Conductor Riccardo Frizza, who will perform Beethoven’s masterpiece with an outstanding quartet of soloists. The soprano solos will be performed by Polina Pasztircsák, who recently recorded this work of Beethoven’s with Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and René Jakobs.
